  Community Prayer Breakfast

It was Thursday, June 28,1787 during the Constitutional Convention with the debate on the floor dealing with representation that the voting reached a hopeless deadlock. Tempers were heated. Some of the New York delegation had already left, and others were on the verge of following suit. At this dismal and unpromising point of the debate, Ben Franklin rose to address the president of the convention, George Washington. In his short but powerful address, the 81 year old philosopher, scientist and statesman noted that “we have not hitherto once thought of humbly applying to the Gather of lights to illuminate our understanding:. In his statement, Franklin called for prayer to be held in the assembly every morning before the delegates proceeded with the agenda. Shortly thereafter, the Connecticut Compromise was presented and adopted.

It was out of this same desire for unity of spirit and purpose that the national prayer breakfast arose. Building on this foundation, and in response to the tragic events of Sep.11, 2001, Pastor Rande Wayne Smith of Community Church spearheaded the 1st annual Rolling Meadows community prayer breakfast to pray for that same unity and purpose of spirit. On March 2, 2002 over 175 local government,
Police and firefighters, and business leaders along with the Rolling Meadows citizenry joined together for this common purpose.

This annual ecumenical Christian program features breakfast, prayer, music and a keynote address given by individuals who bring their own unique perspective to the Christian Life.
